Scarlett Johansson Facing Transgender Role Controversy......And Her Statement Makes Things Worse!!

Is she really that tone deaf!?

Scarlett Johansson is facing a barrage of controversy right now, after it was announced that the 'Avengers' actress would be starring in a new film.

Johansson will be starring in the lead role of 'Rub & Tug', a film focusing on the life of Dante 'Tex' Gill. Gill was born as a biological female named Jean-Marie, but identified as male.

The film finds Scarlett reuniting with 'Ghost in the Shell' director Rupert Sanders. It's also of note that there was massive controversy surrounding that film as well, amid cries of whitewashing.

Backlash to the casting announcement came quick, with many calling for a transgender actor to take on the role. When Scarlett's rep released a statement defending the choice, it didn't exactly settle the waters:

"Tell them they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman's reps for comment."

Let's remember that Jeffrey Tambor was the star of 'Transparent', Felicity Huffman received an Oscar nomination for her role in 'Transamerica', and Jared Leto won his Oscar for his portrayal in 'Dallas Buyer's Club'.

Here's the problem with this statement:

Scarlett acts as though there was never controversy surrounding those roles either. There was backlash during all of it, and her response of calling back to these just comes across as arrogant and dismissive of people's concerns.

Prominent transgender actress Trace Lysette (who also stars in 'Transparent') said on Twitter about the casting:

'Sense8' transgender actress Jamie Clayton also spoke out:

What do you guys make of the controversy?

Madonna was honored by Billboard as Woman of the Year at last nights event, and when she took the stage....

She delivered a speech that EVERYONE needs to hear!!

Speaking out on the ageism, sexism, and controversy surrounding her legendary career, the Queen of Pop held nothing back.
