Sony Speaks Out: Says They Would Terminate Kesha's Contract With Dr. Luke If They Could

The story just got more complicated.

Even from support from the their biggest artists (Lady Gaga and Adele), Sony has now spoken out saying they are unable to release Kesha from her contract.

In a statement to the New York Times, attorneys for the label said:

“Sony has made it possible for Kesha to record without any connection, involvement or interaction with Luke whatsoever, but Sony is not in a position to terminate the contractual relationship between Luke and Kesha,”

“Sony is doing everything it can to support the artist in these circumstances, but is legally unable to terminate the contract to which it is not a party.”

For those of you who may not know, Kesha is signed to a subsidiary of Sony, Kemosabe Records which is is Dr. Luke's label. Now, all of that aside, Kesha's lawsuit against Luke also takes Sony to task. She's claiming they turned a blind eye to his alleged abuse of the singer.

So, Sony SOMEWHAT through support out for Kesha...but remaining adamant there is nothing they can do.

My question?

Why doesn't Dr. Luke just release her!?

  1. Because he can't lose his biggest artist. Even after raping her.
